1.What do the words thesis and dissertation, mean?

"thesis" comes from the Greek θέσις, meaning "position", and refers to an intellectual proposition.The word thesis is utilised as part of a Bachelors or Masters course

"dissertation" is a document that presents the author's research and findings and is submitted in support of candidature for a degree or professional qualification.


2. What is the difference between a thesis and a dissertation?

the difference between both is that "dissertation" is a oral presentation and "thesis" is a research about a topic which is written.

4. Define the following terms:

a. title page: Describe what your thesis is about.
b. abstract: Mention about the problem you want to solve,about your solution,how you solve the problem ,highlights about how good is your solution and possible impacts of your work into the field.
c. table of contents:they are the contents that I´m going to use in the thesis.
d. annotated bibliography: They are the references, is the list of references.
e. introduction:it must contain a little about everything: Information or introduction of the research, the practical and theorical value value of the topic, the motivation of the thesis, to mention if the research is based on a currently existing work, mention the limitations of the solution, information about the key results. an overview about the contents of the thesis.
f. materials and methods: is the information reaserched which we are going to use and how we are going to use.
g. results: is the results that you expect at the end of the task.

5. What is a style guide?

is a set of standards for design and writing of documents, either for general use or for a specific publication or organization. Style guides are prevalent for general and specialized use, for the general reading and writing audience

6. What is an examining committee?

they are people who check the thesis.

7. In Canada, how many pages is the average undergraduate thesis?

Between 75 and 100 pages.

8. What are the 4 verdicts, you can receive on your thesis?

the tesis should be:Accepted
The thesis must be revised.
Extensive revision required.
Unacceptable.

9. What is a thesis committee?

They are the people in charge of evaluate the complete thesis, including their final results and conclusion after the oral presentation.

10. Describe the process of submission of the thesis?

It's the process which the student gives to his or her institution the complete research work.

11. Define the term, thesis statement.

is a non-focused section of text which clearly delineates the argument that will be presented in a proposed paper. A thesis statement should be prepared in advance for all types of scientific writing, and can be anywhere from just one sentence to many pages in length. A thesis statement answers a research question.
It is a useful instrument for investigating the scope of the proposed paper in order to determine if it is too broad or too narrow

12. Now that you've answered these questions, do you feel that writing a thesis will be hell? Explain

Maybe, because write a thesis is a very structured way to write, with many details and with a topic we must choose and find out a lot about it. so I think that it is a very extensive job, but anyway I think is a very useful work for our job as teachers.

Her name is Ingrid Ramos. She is 24 years old and she was living alone in Valparaiso for 5 years,
for academic reasons.

In her free time she did Aerobox twice a week, but her favorite sport is swimming.
Also she liked to go out to dance with her friends.

Her life in Valparaiso was very happy and she enjoyed every moment there.
She met a lot of people and she would like to return there as soon as possible.

1. According to the article, why was writing invented?
Was invented, in order to recording information.

2. Writing is both a noun and a verb. Explain.
noun is like the "thing" that they write and verb is which designates the activity of writing.

3. Name the 4 different categories of writing systems.
they are: logographic, syllabic, alphabetic, and featural.

4. Why are ideographic and pictographic methods NOT considered categories of writing systems?
because they are insufficient to represent language.

5. Name 10 different types of writing tools and materials.
1 stone tablets, 2 clay tablets, 3wax tablets, 4 vellum, 5 parchment, 6 paper,7 copperplate,
8 quills, 9 brushes,10 pencils.

6. True or False: The difference between prehistory and history is when written records were kept.
True because, in the prehistory the paintings and petroglyphs weren't consider like a writing because they did not represent language directly, but the writtin system always is changing based on the needs of the people who use them.

7. Who developed the first writing system:
a. Sumerians
b. Mesopotamians
c. Hittites
d. none of these answers are correct.

my answer is letter "d" because the first writing system was created by Egyptians because, oldest known alphabet was developed in central Egypt around 2000 BC from a hieroglyphic prototype, and over the next 500 years spread to Canaan and eventually to the rest of the world.

They were "The Mayas"

letter "b" because they used turtle shells as oracle bones and recently been discoveries of tortoise-shell carvings dating back to c. 6000 BC

The word "alphabet" came into Middle English from the Late Latin word Alphabetum, which in turn originated in the Ancient Greek.

11. Name 3 types of NON-linear writing systems.
mathematical symbols, punctuation and numerals.

12. Name 2 examples of NON-alphabetic writing systems.
Egyptian hieroglyphs and Chinese characters

13. The alphabet helps distinguish between which 2 types of spoken sounds?
the International Phonetic Alphabet and phonetic approximation of foreign words.

14. In English, what was The Great Vowel Shift?
in Old English the vowel is "æ"

15. Japanese is a complicated language not only because there a 3 different forms of the written language and there are at least 14 levels of formality, but because the spoken language originated from the Korean peninsula and the written language originated from China. English has a similar complicated history. Briefly explain the origins of the English language.

English is a West Germanic language which originated from the Anglo-Frisian dialects brought to Britain by Germanic settlers from various parts of what is now northwest Germany and the northern Netherlands.
Old English was a diverse group of dialects, reflecting the varied origins of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms of Great Britain.The original Old English language was then influenced by two waves of invasion. The first was by language speakers of the Scandinavian branch of the Germanic family; they conquered and colonized parts of the British Isles in the 8th and 9th centuries.
The second was the Normans in the 11th century, who spoke Old Norman and developed an English variety of this called Anglo-Norman.

I love reading books about Egypt.

I remember when my mother gave me my first Egyptian book.

Since that moment, I started to get interested in Egyptian culture.

I still spend a lot of time reading books about Egypt.

Someday, I am going to travel that amazing and wonderful country.

4. What are some of the fears these highly successful writers have about writing?
First, they don't know if what they are writing is just the way they want, therefore they need to be checking constantly and not express their ideas clearly, be stuck about some ideas and not be value to the rest.

5. What are some of the difficulties they have when they are writing?
Write the two areas of a book, because They have to spend a lot of time to write (process)

6. What are some of the positive aspects to writing?
be creatives,keep in secret the things that they´re writting, make changes all the time and live to investigate and dicover new things.

7. Do you feel these authors enjoy being writers? Why?
yes, because is a pleasure for them to write, they enjoy doing that, is a secret is a building that they do when they write is their passion.

8. Is reading an important facet of writing? Why?
yes, because reading you can acquire more vocabulary, culture and ideas.

9. In your opinion, what are the 3 most important things which will make your writing successful?
In my personal opinion they´re: imagination, creativity and culture.

My buddy/Bascuñan Isaura

My name is Isaura Bascuñan and I'm going to talk about my partner, permit me to introduce her.

Her name is Betzabe Campos, she's married and she lives with her husband in Quilicura, she doesn't have any pet, but in a pair of weeks she will have a yorkshire her favorite breed.
She enjoy spending time in her house with her family and friends, she likes going to eat specially italian and chinese food, in her free time she likes watching tv, listening music and reading english magazines, at present she is learning to weave, she loves it!
